Look down, then up, and down again. Watching fashion shows during the Fall/Winter ’13 presentations was like viewing a vertical tennis game every time the models walked the runways. Continue reading “An Arm and A Leg In Fashion Terms” »
Most of us have stood on an island at some point in our lives. A Caribbean island, Staten Island, the island of Manhattan and my new favorite, island platforms. Having good balance and wanting to tower over everyone else around you are reasons enough to own some island platforms heels. These type of islands come in pairs and cost much less than what some celebs paid for their piece of private land to walk on.
A recent visit to JCrew resulted in me trying on a special pair of shoes, their Mona patent leather mary jane heels. No more than 5 seconds after the last button was in place I had a flashback which can only be compared to food critic, Anton Ego’s, childhood memory in the movie Ratatouille. My very first MJ’s (not Marc Jacobs) were flat, patent leather, and black. Worn with white lace-trimmed socks to church, they were the shoes that made me feel like a little princess, and were part of my first few outfits I put together that didn’t require my mother’s help. Who can forget the first shinny thing that made them feel special?!
What can a pair of ear ringers do? ASOS XL Flat Hoop Earrings $17
They can reflect sun rays.
They can be used as small plates.
They can be used as weapons, (depends on if you get them off in time to attack otherwise you’re in trouble).
They can be the only pieces of jewelry you need with your outfit.
They can be the topic of conversation! Continue reading “Deals Galore: Givenchy Giving An Earful.” »
Today in New York the temperature will reach close to 100 degrees and humidity will have some of us cussing under our breathes, yet I’m sharing photos I took of Reiss’s F/W 2012 collection which I got a chance to preview.
I love staying ahead in fashion. It’s something to look forward when we are going through hot days like this one. We know in the coming months, that leather shorts will replace the denim ones some of us have been wearing like they’re uniforms.
Bad hair days due to humidity will no longer have us hiding under the straw brim hats that took some of us forever to find. Instead the fall/winter hats will have us willing skip a hair appointment or two.
Plus the layered outfits will be welcomed back into our lives like the layered slices of cake that will have us covering our stomachs in the first place.
So ladies start looking ahead, it does get shinier at the end of the seasonal tunnel.
My M. I. F.A (Missing In Fashion Action) status these past few days has been very productive and exciting. I’ve been busy putting together a fashion editorial with the coolest team; Lindsay Cullen (makeup artist), Meredith Hurd (model), Sino Chum (videographer) and yours truly as stylist and photographer. Yup I took my Canon out to have some fun on the set this past Sunday, and I have to say with each click and flash, I got better and better.
The four of us had one day to create several mini-fashion stories using fall garments from designers such as Blaque Label, Isabel Lu, JJ Winters, and Muubaa. No outfit was complete without accessories and a good mix from Laruicci, Tuleste Market, and vintage jewelry made the looks into statement makers which gave me countless options to chose from and in return we worked from sunrise to sunset doing what we love!
The first official day of summer is June 20th 2012 and the past few days in New York City with temperatures over 80 degrees there will be no transition time just…. just nothing. I’m decided to start my Will Smith’s “Summertime” dance remix now. I’m doing it with small doses of pastels and neons, avoiding head-to-toe floral prints like it was the plague, overloading on the bangles so they feel like weights, rocking short like the boys, maxi skirts dragging like I’m walking the red carpet, and spikes to keep the bad ones three feet away. Those are just a few of my favorite things. Cue the music!
To love you should be ok with feeling pain. For me, the longer I’ve had that love in my life, depending on the situation, it makes it easier to let it go when the time comes. The memories, and the lessons learned shall help me move on easier, but what about the new found loves that come into your lives, and leave before they can stay a couple of nights in your house or your apt? You haven’t been able to show off your cute outfits for this love and see if it compliments your looks or not.
I am one of their victims. Got caught up in their illegal trade some years ago, my eyes are open, but I can’t stop what they’re doing to me. In the past they stayed under the radar since it was only a single pair here and there, just enough to tease us with, but not too many at a time to have us going crazy. Now they’re getting bold and brave with their takeover, grouping together under a single name, hitting the runways and the streets. Fashion brands are producing these sexy soleful criminals in groups and there is nothing we can do to fight against them. Continue reading “Shoe Gangs Invade Our Summer Lives.” »
What to wear to a wedding without having to wear a dress? How do you avoid that skirted one-piece without looking casual or not put-together for that special event you’re been invited to? I tackled this question last year with a couple of clients, and now with another season of I Do’s to tackle we are trying to stick out of the crowd in all the right ways.
The Separates Troupe is one my favorites. Getting more bang for your buck is perfect when donning a top and a pair of pants since it allows you to mix and match these pieces for several events and occasions in the future without having the tag “Ms. Repeat” on your Facebook photos.
T marks the spot. These well-placed strappy heels first hit the streets, and parties during the 1920s, and have resurfaced, plus reinterpreted almost every decade since then. This year the shoe style has made a strong return with chic and sophisticated styles, making it the winner for the sexiest shoe trend this spring/summer. A little extra material can go a long way.
