Fashion’s Shoulder Slingers

Fashion Shoulder Slingers

The first time I saw this new look during New York Fashion Week almost two years ago, I loved it but, I said to myself that those ladies obviously don’t live among us daily street-walkers in the city.  To wear an open coat, or jacket over your shoulders without securing it while doing everyday activities on the go are impossible.  Let me list some possible scenarios.

An Arm and A Leg In Fashion Terms

Look down, then up, and down again.  Watching fashion shows during the Fall/Winter ’13 presentations was like viewing a vertical tennis game every time the models walked the runways. Continue reading “An Arm and A Leg In Fashion Terms” »

FASHION WEEK LIVE STREAMING F/W 13 DAYS 5-8

FASHION WEEK LIVE STREAMING F/W 13 Day 2

Two of my favorite collections from day 1 of New York Fashion Week Fall/Winter 2013. BCBG Max Azria and Creatures of the Wind.  Rich deep colors, cool prints, kitten heels and so much leather I could smell it through the computer.

FASHION WEEK LIVE STREAMING F/W 13 Day 1

The battle for front row seating at fashion show, is it really worth it?  I’ve sat in the front row at several fashion shows, and instead of me luxuriating in my prime fashion week real estate, I was to worried about not sitting like a proper lady or reaching out to touch the clothes on the runway while the model was doing her job.  Yes I would be the one to not stay seated until the very end of the show.

So I’ve swapped one form of front row seating for another.

Live-streaming gives all of us the good seats at the fashion week shows and once one show is over, we can sit in the comfort of our homes, offices, coffee shops, etc and wait happily for other fashion week presentations to stream on whatever device we have handy at the time.

So enjoy the shows I’ve listed below, just click on the designer’s name to see what they will be dressing us in for the next cold and snowy season this city will see.

Monday Men Style: Dressing The Header Holder.

The ladies will always find ways to dress up the arms, ears and necks throughout the winter, spring and summer seasons. If it’s not with the use of statement making jewelry, the fabrics are put to work in forms of scarves, over-sized collars and bejeweled turtlenecks during the colder months.  On the other side of the fence, men do the same thing with the exception of bejeweled turtlenecks, or maybe I have yet to see that in person.  The stand-up collars look sexier on a man, and the weight of over-sized neck-pieces can be held up much better by the strength of a man’s neck, but the turtlenecks will always be that piece of garment that looks good covering the necks of both sexes.

Monday Men Style: You Hunk Of A Trendsetter.

The men have started it. roaming the Italian streets glaring, walking with swag, charming those who pass by with smiles all the while dressed in high fashion.  But if you weren’t close enough you would of missed trends this batch of men were serving during Pitto Uomo Fall 2013 tradeshows in Florence. I browsed through the photographs taken by Tommy Ton, and found some good looking men were thinking alike while others were creating trends all by their lonesome. men style stripes

A little bit of stripes can do a body good. Continue reading “Monday Men Style: You Hunk Of A Trendsetter.” »

How I Spent My September.

It seems as though my entire summer was the month of September.  July and August were quite compared to exciting chaos September served me from beginning to end.  In 30 days I managed to traveled the NYC world and the seven train lines, in the name of fashion. Pss: I was listening to Eurythmics ”Sweet Dreams

There were so many things that happened in one month, why would I bother writing about it when we all know pictures are better than words.

So I’m taking back to my head-of-the-classroom days.

Monday Men Style: A Fashion Week Uniform

The streets were filled with red, grey and navy blazers on the backs of men during New York Fashion Week, helping to create the perfect uniform for the gentlemen that attended the shows.  Yet these fashion wise guys made the uniform their very own with  must-have accessories of watches, necklaces, neckties, and pocket squares.

From The Heels Up During Fashion Week.

Graphic, chunky heels from Rodarte

Let me worship your soles, your pretty, feminine, dainty and simple shoes.   Don’t think those adjectives would be used to describe the S/S ’13 shoes we saw on the catwalks during New York Fashion Week.  The designs were extreme, chunky, architectural, and colorful.  Some soleful creations, are sure to be painful after walking 4 long blocks in New York City, but we shoe pros are well aware there is a little pain for some fashionable gain.

Embellishment love from Rachel Roy, Christian Siriano and Rachel Roy

Strappy ankle wraps of soleful love Donna Karan and Prabal Gurung.

March Of The Jacobs

Left, Left, Left, Right Left.  Black, Black, Black White Black.  For S/S’ 13 an obvious trend is less color, and Marc Jacobs pulled it off with monochrome prints and simple silhouettes.  Jacobs also showed us that covering it all up can put you into the sexy-fashionable crowd with straight lines, t-shirts and patent leather boots and flats. A collection that channels the 1960s fashion it-girls of that decade like Twiggy and Edie Sedgwick leading the marching band.

Monday Men Style: NYFW Remembers You.

Once fashion week hits the streets of the New York, the men tend not to get as much attention as their female counterparts.  Thank goodness for Tommy Ton looking out for the fellas and providing me with some plain old eye candy that just walks on by.
